KLO Kicks Off a New Party Trend In Dubai: The Afternoon Pop-Ups

10 Feb 2025

Picture this: It is Sunday — the last stretch of the weekend. You are trying to relax, but your mind is already ticking through next week’s to-do list. Sound familiar? Chloe Barakat thought so, too. That is why she launched a new kind of event — one that brings music and art together at a time that actually feels good for everyone. Not at night, not in clubs, but in unexpected places, right in the afternoon.
The next event is happening on Sunday, February 16, from 12 PM to 5 PM at Birdies, so we caught up with KLO to find out what to expect and what these gatherings are all about.

First off: Where does the concept come from?

When I was in London, I met this guy who basically started a trend. He is managing an artist in London and was the one who brought the pop-up concept to TikTok. He started doing pop-ups in unexpected places — like coffee shops and train stations, places you wouldn’t imagine. When he talked about it, I felt super inspired.
I wanted to bring the concept to Dubai but with a bigger purpose — building a community. I decided to host it on a Sunday because I know how Sundays feel: it is the afternoon, you are lonely, and you have Monday and the week ahead looming over you. My goal was to unite people in one place where they could enjoy themselves — without alcohol, just being themselves and meeting others.

It is not only about just music and performance

I especially wanted to create a space where artists could meet, collaborate, and connect. Each time, I collaborate with different local artists to give them a platform — whether they are musicians, jewelry makers, or anyone creative. I feel like the music industry here lacks certain spaces and resources, and I want to help fill that gap.
This entire project is about creating a hub where creative people feel comfortable, supported, and guided in this industry.

Next stop:
Birdies
at Sobha Hartland — February 16

I chose this location because it embodies a strong sense of community. It is a fresh, up-and-coming space in the heart of Sobha, and I wanted to highlight that. I always gravitate toward cozy coffee shops with a welcoming atmosphere, so Birdies felt like the perfect choice for our second pop-up.

What to wait

Each participant brings something unique. Aphrodite Is My Sister has been in the industry for a while, especially in Lebanon, creating stunning handmade pieces — everything is drawn and printed by hand. Moon Cactus specialises in intricate beadwork, while r2b designs focus on beautifully knitted creations. It is all about showcasing local talent and giving artists a platform to share their authentic craft.
And, of course, I will be there to set the mood with great music and good vibes. All the brands share a common aesthetic — colourful, joyful, and uplifting — which makes this collaboration perfectly aligned.

What is the vibe like?

Expect a mix of peaceful, fun, bubbly, and familial energy (and yes, it is dog-friendly)! Think of it as a pop-up with the creative buzz of Quoz Arts Fest but in a smaller, more intimate setting. Plus, a workshop will make the experience even more interactive and engaging.
