Eid Is Over, Now What? Tips To Restore After Ramadan

7 Apr 2025

The crescent moon has bid its farewell, the last of the Eid sweets have been devoured, and your body is now wondering what on earth just happened. After a month of fasting from dawn till dusk, your system might be in a bit of a tizzy. Fear not! Here are some scientifically-backed tips to help you transition smoothly back to your regular routine, with a touch of humour to keep things light.

Breaking fast gently after Ramadan 2025

The main rule that applies to all the tips below is: do not rush back into your pre-Ramadan routine as soon as the Holy Month is over. Take your time and allow your body the necessary space to adapt. Your digestive system, in particular, requires a careful approach:
  • Start with small, nutrient-dense meals: Begin with easily digestible foods such as soups, yoghurts, and steamed vegetables. Yoghurt, rich in probiotics, can aid in replenishing beneficial gut bacteria, supporting digestion and overall gut health.
  • Incorporate probiotic-rich foods: Including foods like unsweetened yoghurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchi can help repopulate your gut with healthy bacteria, aiding digestion.
  • Monitor portion sizes: Your stomach's capacity may have adjusted during Ramadan. Consuming smaller portions can prevent discomfort and promote better digestion.
  • Stay hydrated: Aim to drink at least 8–10 glasses of water daily to support digestion and overall bodily functions. Proper hydration also aids in nutrient absorption and helps prevent fatigue.
  • Take supplements if necessary: Fasting may affect nutrient intake, so we recommend to evaluate your nutritional status by consulting a doctor and taking tests.

Sleep rhythm gets back on track

Ramadan often alters sleep patterns, making it crucial to reset your circadian rhythm:
  • Gradually adjust bedtime: Shift your bedtime earlier by 30–60 minutes each night until you reach your desired schedule. This incremental change helps your body adapt without causing additional stress.
  • Prioritise quality sleep: Aim for 7–9 hours of uninterrupted sleep to allow your body to recover and function optimally.
  • Limit evening screen time: Reduce exposure to blue light from electronic devices before bedtime, as it can interfere with melatonin production and disrupt sleep.

Fitness: Baby steps to restore

Resuming exercise requires a gradual approach to prevent injury:
  • Begin with low-impact activities: Start with exercises like walking, yoga, or gentle stretching to reintroduce movement. This approach helps rebuild endurance and strength safely.
  • Listen to your body: Pay attention to signs of fatigue or discomfort, adjusting your routine as needed to prevent overexertion. Incorporate rest days to allow for adequate recovery.

Self-Care: Rebalance your mind after Ramadan

Maintaining mental health is as important as physical health:
  • Practice mindfulness and meditation: Engage in daily mindfulness exercises to reduce stress and enhance emotional resilience. This will be good for staying focused as well!
  • Reconnect socially: Spend time with family and friends to strengthen relationships and receive emotional support. Social connections are vital for mental well-being.
  • Reflect and journal: Writing down your thoughts and experiences can provide clarity, assist in processing emotions, and serve as a therapeutic outlet.

Hydrate & glow: Your beauty routine

Fasting can impact skin health, making hydration and care essential:
  • Use hydrating skincare products: Incorporate moisturisers containing ingredients like glycerin and hyaluronic acid to attract and retain moisture. Apply moisturiser on damp skin to enhance absorption.
  • Apply sunscreen daily: Protect your skin from UV damage by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, even on cloudy days. Remember, sunscreen is a must throughout a year in Dubai.
  • Turn to the light: Try LED-masks that use light therapy to promote collagen production, reduce inflammation, and help rejuvenate your skin. They are a great addition to your post-Ramadan beauty regime, and, well, they look very cool.
