STR Has an App Now! Why You Should Download It?

19 Aug 2025

We launched STR (that is Sandy Times Radio, for the uninitiated) last November, threw a marvellous party about it (don't worry, more rounds of Crowd Test are on the way this season, but shh), and we keep going strong. Broadcasting exclusive mixes by local artists and global names. Compiling playlists that stick with you everywhere — from motorway escapades to grim Monday mornings, from getting ready for a night out to patching yourself up after heartbreak. Creating podcasts that tell stories of people and things. What else could we possibly need?
An app, obviously. Because life is complicated enough without hunting for tabs in your browser. STR in app form means smoothness, convenience, and the smug satisfaction of having us in your pocket, always ready to replace the chaos of algorithm-driven platforms with actual human curation.

What is in there?

Nothing you don't want. Music and podcasts, neat and simple. Pick a mix, playlist, or podcast episode — whether you are in love with the artist or merely in a mood — and press play. Or, if you are feeling wild, let it all go and listen to the live broadcast. After all, we are RADIO.

Why download the app?

We do enjoy retro, but listening to music through a browser feels very Y2K. It is far easier to open an app and forget about it. And yes, we have plans for something special that will exist only in the app — so perhaps give Spotify a little nudge to make room.

What is so special about STR?

We are authentic. Our Creative Director, Kito Jempere, is a musician with an impeccable ear (just like everyone we feature). In an era when algorithms pick your mood for you, we believe some things ought to remain crafted & curated. Imagine someone making you a mixtape in 1986 — that is the spirit. Only we are very good at it.

Can I download music?

Not yet. Airplane mode will sever the connection, but we are working on it.
So no more hesitation — download now from the App Store.
